Narhe, 27th November 2025: Following a recent fatal accident near the Navale Bridge on the Mumbai–Bangalore Highway, authorities have initiated major traffic changes to enhance road safety in the Narhe area.

Vehicles coming from Manajinagar in Narhe will no longer be allowed to access the highway directly. The traffic department has permanently closed the entry point by installing a cement concrete divider, directing all vehicles from this route onto the service road instead. Officials said the move aims to prevent further accidents and address long-standing safety concerns.

Additionally, two internal roads near the hotel and lodge stretch by Jambulwadi Lake — connecting Navale Bridge to Satara Road — have also been closed using an iron divider. These roads had become accident-prone due to the high volume of vehicles frequently driving in the wrong direction, officials said.

The decision is expected to ease highway congestion while ensuring safer movement for motorists.

The accident recently brought several leaders, including Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol, Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council Dr Neelam Gorhe, MP Supriya Sule and Industries Minister Uday Samant, to inspect the site and review safety improvements. Members of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had also staged a protest demanding urgent action.

The Pune Traffic Department, National Highways Authority and police have jointly installed barricades and directional signage to streamline vehicle movement. Authorities have appealed to the public to follow the new rules and cooperate with enforcement agencies.
