Pune: Accident Claims Life of Three-Year-Old Girl in PMC Garbage Truck Collision
Kondhwa, 3rd February 2024: A three-year-old girl lost her life when a PMC garbage truck collided with the bike she was riding on with her parents. The incident occurred around 12:55 pm on Thursday in front of Parsi Colony near Lullanagar Chowk.
The victim, identified as Saherbano Shaikh from Kondhwa, was the daughter of a catering businessman residing on NIBM Annexe Road. The bike, driven by her father Salman Khan, was hit from the rear by the PMC garbage truck, resulting in the untimely demise of the young girl.
The truck driver, Narsingh Kabre (34) from the Ambegaon area, was apprehended later and charged with causing the victim’s death due to negligence.
Providing details of the incident, Sub-inspector Santosh Gaikwad of the Wanowrie police stated, “The three-year-old girl was seated in front of her father on the bike, with her mother Sakina Khan and six-month-old sister riding pillion from Lullanagar Chowk to Market Yard Chowk. The PMC garbage truck, traveling in the same direction, lost control and collided with the two-wheeler from the rear.”
Gaikwad continued, “The bike’s driver, Salman, lost balance and fell on the left side. Tragically, the girl fell on the right side and came under the rear left wheel of the truck, resulting in her instantaneous death. Salman, his wife, and their other daughter escaped unhurt.”
Following the accident, the truck driver, Kabre, attempted to flee the scene but was pursued and apprehended by passersby. Senior police inspector Sanjay Patange reported, “The victim was thrown into the air and ended up under the rear wheel of the truck due to the impact. We have seized both the bike and the truck for RTO inspection, and the victim’s body has been sent to Sassoon General Hospital for post-mortem, with the report pending.”
The victim’s uncle, Siraj Khan, who filed the complaint, shared, “My younger brother and his family were en route to Market Yard on the bike after a visit to the bank. According to my brother, the truck driver attempted to overtake their bike and collided with them from behind, leading to this tragic incident.”
