Pune: Accountant At Talegaon Municipal Council Held While Accepting Bribe, Case Registered

Talegaon 28th Sept 2023: The Anti-Corruption Bureau officials of Pune division have arrested an accountant working with Talegaon Municipal Council for demanding and accepting a bribe from a person to clear his pending bills. The accused identified as Narendra Anantao Kanse (55) was arrested by the ACB officials from the premises of Talegaon Municipal Council on Wednesday.
According to police, Naredra works as an accountant at the Municipal Council while the complainant is a contractor who was provided a contract to carry out works at the gas crematorium. Besides, he was also given the contract for spraying sanitiser during the COVID pandemic. The bill amount for the works was pending for which the contractor approached the accused to clear his bills. The accused accountant asked him to pay 1% of the total bill to clear the pending dues following which the contractor reached out to lodge a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
The ACB officials verified the details and it was revealed that the accused had demanded Rs 5,000 from the contractor. A case in this regard has been registered at Talegaon Dabhade Police Station under sections 7 and 7(a) of the Prevention Of Corruption Act. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
The ACB officials have appealed citizens to not pay bribe to anyone and asked them to complain any such matter for necessary action.
