Pune: Accused Escapes Police Custody On Way To Jail From Court, Three Cops Suspended

Pune 6th July 2023: The Deputy Police Commissioner of Pune City has suspended three police personnel after an accused escaped from police custody while he was being taken to Yerwada jail from the Shivajinagar court in an auto rickshaw. The accused identified as Rajesh Kamble (40) who was arrested for planning dacoity in a case registered at Swargate Police Station was produced before the court on Wednesday.

The three police constables identified as Murlidhar Mahadu Kokane, Rajudas Ramji Chavan and one more police constable who were attacked with the court company of Pune City Police were given a task to hand over the accused from Shivajinagar court to Yerawada Jail officials. However, the police team decided to take him to Yerawada Jail in auto rickshaw and the police constable stopped the auto on way after the accused asked for water. However, as the vehicle stopped the accused ran away with his associate who was standing nearby with a bike. A case in this regard was registered at Shivajinagar Police Station in the matter.

The DCP while taking a serious note of this incident issued suspension orders of the three constables due to negligence.
