Pune: Action Taken Against Sweet-Sellers In Manchar and Chakan For Flouting Hygiene Rules

Pune, 5th September 2022: On behalf of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), action has been taken against Mahaveer Dairy and Sweet Mart at Manchar for storing Khawa and Gujarat Barfi in unhygienic conditions, and two sweets-sellers at Chakan for not mentioning the ‘best before’ date on the sweets trays.

The FDA raided Mahaveer Dairy and Sweet Mart. They took samples of Khawa and Sweet Khawa (Gujarat Barfi) stored in unhygienic conditions. The remaining 119 kgs of Khawa worth Rs 23,800 and 28 kgs of Sweet Khawa worth Rs 5,600 (Gujarat Barfi) were seized.

It is clear from the label that Sweet Khawa and Gujarat Barfi are made from ingredients like sugar, milk powder, and edible oil. All sweet-sellers should mention the ‘best before’ date on the trays of sweets kept for sale in the shop and should not use adulterated sweet khawa (Gujarat barfi) for making sweets; instead, use good quality khawa made from milk.

Sanjay Naragude, Joint Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration Department, said that action will be taken against the sweet-seller if it is found that sweet khawa (Gujarat barfi) is used in making sweets.
