Pune, 6th May 2023: Shiv Sena MLA Aditya Thackeray today expressed his concern over the proposed Balbharti to Paud phata road and two tunnels project at Vetal Hill.

He called it a “dictatorship against the people” and urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to reach out to the Maharashtra state government to seek the views of local citizens before proceeding with any project.

Thackeray’s comments come after a long march was taken out by the Vetal Hill Action Committee last month to protest against the proposed project. Environmentalists from different parts of the city participated in the march.

NCP MP Supriya Sule also inspected the area and discussed the issue with environmentalists.

During his visit, Thackeray inspected Vetal Hill and had discussions with environmentalists. He said that there has been corruption and irregularities in the state in the last six to seven months, with projects being carried out without considering the development and needs of local citizens. He criticized the Shinde Fadnavis government for its actions.

Thackeray further pointed out that nearly 7,000 trees are slated to be removed for the riverfront development (RFD) project, which was initially promised to not harm any trees. He warned that such actions will have a negative impact on the environment and called for measures to prevent it.
