Pimpri, 18th October 2023: For the past one and a half years, the Municipal Corporation has been under administrative rule, overseeing the approval of several significant projects totalling a staggering two and a half thousand crores. These projects include constructing a new municipal administrative building, a sewage treatment plant, and extensive mechanical road cleaning.

The five-year tenure of the corporators in the municipal corporation, which began in March 2017, concluded on 13 March 2022. The administrative rule commenced with the appointment of then-Commissioner Rajesh Patil, who served as an administrator for the initial four months. However, on August 16, he was transferred from the role. Subsequently, Shekhar Singh assumed the responsibilities of Commissioner and Administrator, holding the position for the past 14 months.

During this period of administrative rule, significant financial expenditures were recorded. In the fiscal year 2020-21, the expenditure reached a substantial 4,029 crores, followed by 4,310 crores in 2021-22, and 4,374 crores in 2022-23, spanning revenue, capital, and establishment. In the ongoing financial year 2023-24, an additional 2,034 crores and 86 lakhs were expended. This brings the total expenditure under the administrative rule to two thousand 44 crores and 36 lakhs, indicating an increase of 64 crores in expenses. It is noteworthy that the Municipal Corporation currently bears no liability burden.

To support crucial projects such as the River Rejuvenation Project, a loan of 200 crores has been raised. As administrators wield the powers of the standing committee, approvals for projects worth crores of rupees are granted weekly. Notable projects sanctioned during the past year and a half include 286 crores for the construction of a new municipal building, 338 crores for mechanical road cleaning, 300 crores for a cable network, 450 crores for a hospital in Moshi, and 172 crores for the construction of a sewage treatment plant near the Bhama Askhed dam. The cumulative value of these projects surpasses an impressive two and a half thousand crores.
