Pune: AFMC’s Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Organises SIOG-25 CME with National Experts

Pune, 30th June 2025: The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, successfully conducted the “SIOG-25” Inter-Command Continuing Medical Education (CME) from 27″ to 29′” June 2025.

The event commenced with a full-day pre-conference workshop on 27″ June, offering
hands-on training in key areas such as obstetric emergency drills, soft embalmed cadaveric dissection, hysteroscopy and laparoscopic simulation, obstetric sonography, invasive prenatal testing, and basic subfertility procedures. The sessions saw enthusiastic participation and received highly positive feedback.

Two major inaugurations marked the occasion. The department unveiled its new museum, “Dharohar’, showcasing its rich legacy and historical contributions. It was inaugurated by Surgeon Vice Admiral Punita Arora, PVSM, SM, VSM (Retd), the first woman three-star officer in the Indian Armed Forces. The newly established “Brig SD Khanna Skills Lab”, offering high-fidelity simulation-based training, was inaugurated by Surgeon Vice Admiral Anupam Kapur, NM, Director General Hospital Services (Armed Forces).

The scientific program over the next two days featured skill-based talks, panel discussions, plenary sessions, and three prestigious orations, covering both clinical and surgical skills, as well as communication, teaching and soft skills. Renowned experts and thought leaders delivered insightful sessions that enriched the academic experience.

The conference was attended by delegates from both civilian and Armed Forces medical institutions. Esteemed Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) faculty, including Lt Gen BK Goyal, AVSM, VSM, Lt Gen PP Rao, Maj Gen Ashwin Galgali, Maj Gen AK Srivastava, and others, graced the occasion. Civilian luminaries such as Dr. Sanjay Gupte, Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar, Dr. Abhishek Mangeshikar, Dr. Manish Macheve and Dr. Parag Biniwale also contributed significantly to the scientific discourse.

SIOG-25 marked a celebration of academic excellence, legacy, and innovation in women’s healthcare.
