Dhanori, 29th March 2022: After an anti-encroachment drive in Dhanori, angry residents thrashed staff of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) around 2.30 pm today (March 29). A mob of about 100 to 200 people attacked the employees of the municipality after the police deployed for security had gone to eat.
The anti-encroachment action in Dhanori began around 1:30 pm. PMC demolished encroachment of vendors who illegally constructed sheds on the footpaths.
A large crowd of locals had gathered at this time. Meanwhile, a heated argument broke out between local citizens and municipal employees.
At the same time, some people threw stones at JCB machines engaged in the demolition drive. Seeing the situation getting out of hand, the municipal officials walked away from the place, while the JCB driver also left the JCB.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the road, security personnel in khaki uniforms and other employees of the municipal squad were spotted by the crowd.
The mob rushed to the spot, chased them, and beat them. The mob also smashed the mobile phones of two or three persons who were filming the incident. Meanwhile, a case is being registered at the Vishrantwadi police station by the PMC.
The municipal team was given the protection of the Pune Police team deployed with PMC for this action. However, the police officers and employees had gone to eat while the employees were being beaten by the mob. After all the incidents took place, the police team of the PMC reached the spot. When asked about it, they refused to say anything.
