Pune Airport Advisory: Passengers Urged to Arrive Two Hours Early Amid Traffic and Rain Delays
Pune, 18th August 2025: For passengers traveling from Pune to Delhi, the time it takes to reach Pune International Airport from home is sometimes double the actual flight duration! Pothole-ridden roads, heavy rains, and severe traffic jams are causing this situation. Adding to the inconvenience, security checks at the airport are also consuming significant time, leaving many passengers boarding their flights at the last possible minute. Against this backdrop, the Pune Airport Authority has issued an advisory urging passengers to arrive at the airport at least two hours before the scheduled departure time.
Increasing city traffic congestion is heavily impacting air travelers. Even with plans to reach the airport an hour before domestic flights, delays caused by traffic, combined with lengthy security and boarding processes, are resulting in last-minute rushes and, in some cases, missed flights.
The airport administration stated in its advisory: “To avoid missing flights, passengers should arrive two hours early. Due to rains, road traffic has slowed down, and check-in and security procedures are taking longer than expected.”
Airlines too have appealed to passengers for better preparedness. Akasa Air noted that heavy rains in Pune, Mumbai, and Goa are worsening traffic congestion on roads leading to airports. Passengers are advised to account for additional travel time and check flight status before reaching the airport.
“My flight to Bengaluru was yesterday. I left home four hours early, yet due to rain and traffic jams, I barely made it to the terminal. After that, nearly an hour was spent at security. For families traveling with children or elderly passengers, this is extremely exhausting,” said a traveler.
With the weather department forecasting heavy rains over the next two days, congestion at airports and delays in security procedures are expected to continue. “Passengers must leave home well in advance and plan to arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure,” said Santosh Dhoke, Director of Pune Airport.
