Viman Nagar, 21st March 2024: Anticipated to commence flights by April 15th, the new terminal building of Pune Airport is set to feature five baggage conveyor belts, offering a glimmer of hope for smoother travel experiences, particularly during baggage collection, according to aviation experts and frequent flyers.

Expressing concerns over the frequent chaos experienced during baggage retrieval in the current facility, aviation experts emphasize the importance of addressing operational challenges before expanding flight schedules, especially with the upcoming summer season.

A senior airport official disclosed, “Efforts are underway to expedite the opening of the terminal building. Our target is to commence operations by April 15th. The relocation of various departments, including cargo and Customs, has commenced. The in-line baggage check-in system is undergoing testing, with scrutiny and approval pending from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.”

While Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had initially proposed an operational launch by April 1st during the building’s inauguration in March, Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke clarified that a specific date remains uncertain due to ongoing tasks. Dhoke assured that all efforts are being made to avoid delays in the completion of the project.

Regarding the existing building, an official outlined plans to retain parts of it with modifications slated for completion by December. Notably, the current baggage belts will undergo dismantling as part of the transition.

With five baggage belts planned for the new facility, passengers are optimistic that existing issues will be mitigated, offering a smoother travel experience in the upgraded terminal.
