Pune Airport’s Quick Action Returns Lost Items to Passengers: Over 100 Cases Resolved in a Month

Viman Nagar, 7th December 2024: Pune Airport authorities have implemented a proactive initiative to reunite passengers with their lost belongings, often before they even board their flights. While not always feasible, the program has seen remarkable success, with numerous items returned promptly.
“Passengers often forget items during the security screening process, only realizing their mistake later. Our team actively works to locate and return such belongings, including items like laptops, phone chargers, handbags, and even jewelry,” explained an airport official.
Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke highlighted the efficiency of the new process introduced at the terminal. “We’ve instructed our staff to immediately report any unattended belongings to the CISF control room. Using CCTV footage and on-ground teams, we identify the owner and ensure the item is returned promptly. This collaboration between CISF and airport staff has been effective,” Dhoke said.
He added, “Passengers face significant challenges when they realize their belongings are missing after leaving the airport. Retrieving these items later involves a lengthy process, as they are stored under the terminal manager’s supervision. Our new system aims to prevent such inconveniences.”
In the past month alone, nearly 100 cases of misplaced items were resolved before the passengers boarded their flights. On average, Pune Airport, which handles around 18,000 departures daily, encounters 10-12 instances of forgotten belongings each day.
