Pune, August 13, 2020: The Pune District Disaster Management Authority has issued alert for Pune city, Haveli, Shirur and Daund talukas as all gates of the Khadakwasla dam have been opened, and water is being released in Mutha river. The decision was taken as there is heavy rain in the catchment areas and the dam has become 100 percent full.

Vitthal Banote, District Disaster Management Officer, has issued a letter to all the concerned Tehsildars and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). “Nobody should be allowed to go in the river bed area, and no vehicle should be parked there. Based on the rainfall in the catchment area, more water can be released,” he said.

From 5 pm, 11,705 cusecs of water was being released, which increased to 16,478 cusecs from 7 pm. As a precautionary measure, Pune traffic police have put barricades and restricted entry to riverside roads. The Bhide Bridge near Deccan will go under water.
