Pune, 8th December 2022: Reportedly, an attempt is being made to de-merge Wagholi from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and create a separate Municipality.

“After years of struggle and multiple follow-ups, Wagholi was finally merged with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on 1st July 2021. It is like a demotion of all Wagholikars after being promoted last year”, stated Wagholi Housing Societies Association (WHSA).

There are multiple advantages of being in the PMC like standardized processes, more funds, more resources, professional and approachable bureaucrats, and staff with accountability.

Smaller units like Grampanchayat or Palika are appropriate for smaller areas, but Wagholi has a population of more than three lakh people. It needs vision-oriented development by competent authorities.

“We oppose this attempt of derailing Wagholi’s development and support to continue being in PMC. We shall also be taking this up with Government authorities,” WHSA stated.
