Pune : American citizen detained by police for beating Muslims in Camp area

Pune, September 2, 2019 : A 43-year-old woman from the United States of America (USA) was detained by Pune city police on Sunday for allegedly thrashing a Muslim woman near Clover Centre in Pune Camp area. Police said that the American woman has been harassing Muslims for the last few days in Camp area.

Based on complaint from a 27-year-old doctor from Kondhwa, Lashkar police station registered a non-cognisable (NC) case against the American woman for offences under section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult) of  Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“I was walking down the stairs at Clover Centre, when she asked me in English if I am a Muslim. When I said yes, she started abusing and hit me with hands”, the complainant woman told police.

Times of India quoted Senior inspector Chandrakant Bhosale of the Lashkar police station told that the American  woman did not appear in the best of her mental health. She has been staying in Pune with her caretaker. However, she leaves her residence by herself sometimes. She has hit some pedestrians  in the past also and we have told  the caretaker to hospitalize her.
