Pune Among Worst-Hit Cities in Maharashtra as COVID-19 Cases Continue to Rise

Pune, 21st March 2023: Three years after the devastating pandemic that shook the nation, India is slowly but surely grappling with the ongoing spread of the disease. The city of Pune is among the hardest hit, with 411 active cases, while Mumbai follows closely behind with 296.

Thane District stands third with 244 cases. As of March 20, the Public Health Department of Maharashtra reported 128 new cases and no deaths, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 1364.

The case fatality rate is 1.82%. Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases and fatalities in the country, with a total of 81,39,737 cases and 148,428 deaths.

Although health authorities believe the increase in cases is due to seasonal flu, they are taking precautionary measures by screening patients at various airports in the state.
