Pune: Animal Lover Rescues Injured Stray Cat, Helps Her Walk Again

Pune, 3rd July 2025: In a heartwarming display of compassion, a stray cat named Bali has made an incredible recovery after suffering a severe spinal injury. Thanks to the expertise and care of Dr Narendra Pardeshi, India’s leading Vet Surgeon from Small Animal Clinic and his team, Bali’s is able to walk again after six months, without any pain. Bali’s journey from a vulnerable stray to a joyful, lively house cat is nothing but inspiring. Timely intervention has helped Bali to get a second chance at life.
Bali was a bundle of joy, playful, curious, and always full of mischief. Though she lived on the streets, she had become a part of Radhika Dixit’s world. Every morning, Bali would greet her with twinkling eyes, waiting patiently for food and a few moments of play. Their bond grew stronger with each passing day.
But one heartbreaking day, everything changed. Unfortunately, Radhika found Bali lying unconscious on the roadside, motionless and fragile. In that moment, fear and pain gripped her heart. “My heart was pounding. I was in a rude shock. I thought I was going to lose her,” Radhika recalls. Without hesitation, that very day, she made the decision; Bali was no longer just a stray. She was family. Radhika took her home, determined to fight for her life and give her the love and safety she always deserved.
On 2nd September 2024, Radhika took Bali to the clinic for a routine check-up. Though a little unsure in the new environment, Bali’s spirit was bright. Under the guidance of Dr Narendra Pardeshi, she received her vaccinations and was dewormed. He also recommended spaying to ensure long-term health. As time passed, Bali would go on regular walks with the family members. She became a source of comfort and calm for everyone around her. She brought peace just by being there, with a smiley face.
But life took a difficult turn. On 26th January 2025, Bali was rushed back to the clinic. She had lost the ability to walk. X-rays revealed a spinal cord fracture, and her blood tests showed significant deficiencies. Dr Pardeshi immediately started her on medications, including Vitcofol injections and Meloflex liquid to manage pain and improve her condition.
After monitoring her progress, a surgery was scheduled on 5th February 2025. The procedure was successful, but post-operative care was crucial. Dr Pardeshi instructed that an Elizabeth collar be used immediately to prevent Bali from licking or biting the surgical site. Unfortunately, Bali chewed through her own left hind leg, exposing the tibia and fibula bones, which had detached.
What followed were months of intensive wound dressings and care, where the team worked day and night to save Bali’s leg and life. She remained strong even in pain, and was alert and responsive, a fighter in every sense. In June 2025, the spinal wiring was successfully removed. Bali is now in recovery and walking with joy.
Dr Narendra Pardeshi, India’s leading Vet Surgeon from Small Animal Clinic said, “Bali’s case was one of the most emotionally intense ones we’ve handled. Despite everything she went through, she never lost her will to live. Her recovery signifies the importance of patience, love, and timely veterinary care. We are now focusing on alternative therapies like acupressure and acupuncture to ensure she lives a pain-free life. Watching her bounce back so strongly has been our goal. Her recovery is not just a medical success; it’s a story of trust, survival, and love.”
Radhika Dixit, expressed her gratitude and joy. She said, “I still remember the first day I found her. She was quiet, frightened, and hiding in corners. Today, she’s jumping over sofas, chasing toys, and rulingg the house with confidence. I am forever indebted to Dr Pardeshi and his team, who gave her the best possible care. Bali has filled our home with happiness. We’re lucky to have her.”
