Hinjawadi, 3rd May 2025: Another wildfire has broken out in Pune’s Hinjawadi Phase 3 area, highlighting a troubling pattern of recurring fires in the area, especially during the summer months. The blaze, which erupted in a secluded hill zone inaccessible to fire brigade vehicles, has become a significant nuisance for nearby residents due to the intense smoke and heat it generates.

Local Citizens report that these wildfires, occurring roughly every couple of months outside the monsoon season, are becoming increasingly common. The affected hill, rarely visited by the public, is a critical green space for Hinjawadi, providing a rare source of pure oxygen in the rapidly developing suburb. Residents express concern that repeated fires are damaging the hill’s biodiversity and converting vital oxygen-producing vegetation into carbon dioxide, further impacting air quality.

Despite efforts to obtain more information, officials from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation’s (MIDC) Fire Brigade were unavailable for comment. With fire vehicles unable to reach the site, emergency teams can only work to prevent the flames from spreading further, leaving the root cause of these frequent blazes still unknown.
