Pune: Army Jawan among six arrested in fake currency racket, over Rs 30 crores worth notes seized

Pune, June 10, 2020: In a joint operation official from Army’s Southern Command Liaison Unit (Military Intelligence) and Pune City Police Crime Branch has busted a fake currency racket by arresting six persons including a serving Army jawan. The counting of notes is going on, police said.

Acting on a tip-off received by the Military Intelligence (M), the joint team nabbed the accused persons in Sanjay Park near Viman Nagar. “The Joint CP Pune had directed to plan an operation. After detailed planning with MI team, a joint operation was carried out today in which 6 persons including one serving military person has been detained with multiple denominations of fake Indian and foreign currency. Counting of currency is going on as per the procedure”, said DCP (crime) Bachchan Singh.

He further said, “Crime Branch Unit4 and Anti-Narcotics Cell (West region) teams coordinated with MI teams for the operation. Further interrogations going on regarding source of the currency. The legal process will follow.”

The detained Army Jawan has been identified as Naik Sheikh Alim Gulaab Saab of Bombay Sappers. Fake Indian and foreign ( US dollars ) currency notes with face value of over Rs 30 crores has been recovered along with fake pistol and  Army identity card. Further investigation is going on.
