Pune: Association Of African Students in India Celebrates First Graduation Ceremony

Pune, 20th July 2021: The Association Of African Students in India Pune (AASI – Pune) is one of the largest student bodies in Pune. Founded by students for students in 1961 and re-emerged in 2010 it has gradually grown to be one of the most admirable students Association in Pune. Its main aim is to promote education among African Students in India and to unite all African Students in India, the Association also works to secure the well-being of all African students studying in Pune.

 

The Association organised a two days graduation ceremony (16th to 17th July 2021) for Asian students and African students not only from Pune city but for other cities who travelled all the way from cities like Mumbai, Bangalore and Rajasthan just to be part of this auspicious event. The 2 days event consisted of a Fun-Day on the 16th where T-shirts were given to the students and a number of games were played at Boston World School, Kad Nagar Undri Pune. And the main event on the 17th was the graduation ceremony day which was held at Amanora the Fern Hotel and Club in Amanora Park Town, Magarpatta Road, Pune, from 12 pm to 4 pm.

 

In Attendance was Engineer Zakia Wardak, the Consul General of the Islamic The Republic of Afghanistan in Mumbai, India since August 2020. Prof. Dr Kirti Mahajan, Director, International Students Centre & Students Welfare, Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Pune, India. Diganta Pratim Das, Academic director and Cluster principal and for Boston world School, RIMS international school and Rims Jr College. Ms Mona Vaidya has rich experience in managing educational institutions she believes in bringing a global mindset to education. Thon Kuol Thon known as Anthony, Current Ambassador of IDAAP- Idixcover of Africa Ambassador programs and Current President of AASI- Association of African students in India, Pune chapter. Mr Abba Oumar Mustapha Abdoulaye current president of the Federation of International Students Association – Pune. Other dignitaries in attendance with various representatives of other AASI – Pune sponsors and well-wishers.

 

The program was spearheaded by speeches of encouragement from dignitaries and a few graduating students then came to the entertainment section when a number of students from Sudan and Afghanistan showed off some of their countries traditional dances, the program was wrapped up by the presentation of certificates to the graduating students and special recognition was given to a few outstanding students of the year.

 

When interviewed, the students could not hold back the joy and happiness of what the AASI – Pune graduation ceremony brought to them as it was already difficult for international students to go through the pandemic situation away from home. We are soo grateful to the AASI – PUNE committee for organising this graduation and making our dreams come true we wouldn’t have asked for a more perfect day.
