Pune, 21st April 2026: A major irregularity has surfaced in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) after an agreement related to a property worth around ₹40 crore was allegedly executed on a ₹500 notary stamp paper, raising serious concerns over procedural lapses.

The issue came to light during a civic body meeting, where corporator Amol Balwadkar flagged the matter and questioned how such a high-value transaction could be carried out using a nominal stamp paper. It was also revealed that a municipal property in Baner had been handed over to a private entity without charging rent, further intensifying concerns over the process.

Balwadkar further highlighted that despite the civic body owning valuable properties, citizens continue to face difficulties in accessing benefits under government health schemes. He pointed to systemic gaps, particularly in availing treatment under reserved quotas in hospitals.

He also demanded the development of a dedicated mobile application to provide real-time information on the availability of reserved hospital beds, stating that such a system would improve transparency and enable patients to access timely medical care.

Following the revelations, the mayor has ordered a detailed inquiry into the matter. Officials have been directed to examine how the agreement was executed and whether due procedures were bypassed.

Preliminary findings indicate possible lapses in documentation and administrative oversight. The civic administration is expected to scrutinize the role of officials involved and verify the terms under which the property was allotted.

The development has triggered criticism within the civic body, with demands for accountability and stricter checks in the handling of municipal assets.

Further investigation is underway.
