Balewadi, 6th April 2026: In a major relief for commuters in the Baner, Balewadi and Pashan areas, the long-pending Baner–Pashan Link Road project is likely to be completed soon. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the process of appointing a contractor to complete the remaining 200-metre stretch of the road.

The project, which has been pending for nearly three decades, is considered crucial for easing traffic congestion in the rapidly developing western suburbs of the city. PMC has already deposited ₹25 crore with the district administration for land acquisition and is prepared to begin work immediately after taking possession of the land.

Although most of the 1.2-km road has been completed, the project was stalled due to land acquisition issues in the middle stretch. As a result, residents have been forced to take long detours every day, leading to fuel wastage and loss of time.

The road was originally approved in 1992, but actual work began only in 2014. Since then, complications related to land acquisition delayed its completion, even as the area witnessed rapid urbanisation and a sharp rise in traffic.

The Baner–Pashan Link Road is part of PMC’s ‘missing link’ road projects. Out of 33 such roads identified across the city, the civic body aims to complete 12 within the current year, as stated by Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram during the budget presentation.

In 2021, the Baner–Pashan Link Road Welfare Trust approached the High Court over the delay. Following continued inaction, the court in April 2025 directed the civic body to complete land acquisition within two months and finish the road within four months.

With the final hurdle now being addressed, the completion of the link road is expected to significantly improve connectivity and reduce daily traffic woes for residents.
