Pune: Baramati Medical and Ayurvedic Hospitals Renamed After Late Deputy CM Ajit Pawar
Baramati, 2nd March 2026: The Maharashtra government has decided to name the government general hospital attached to the Government Medical College in Baramati and the Government Ayurvedic College at Medad after late Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The decision was formalised through a notification issued by the Medical Education and Drugs Department.
As per the notification, the medical college in Baramati will continue to be known as Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Government Medical College. However, the hospital attached to it will now be called Swargiya Ajitdada Pawar General Hospital. Similarly, the Government Ayurvedic College at Medad will be renamed Swargiya Ajitdada Pawar Government Ayurvedic College and Hospital.
The state government said Ajit Pawar made a significant contribution to the establishment and development of both institutions. From the initial planning stage to actual construction, he visited both sites several times and offered guidance during various phases of the projects.
The two hospitals have become key healthcare centres not only for Baramati but also for patients from Pune, Satara, Solapur and Ahilyanagar districts. Treatment, surgeries and diagnostic tests are provided at government-approved rates. Facilities such as CT scans and MRI are also available at subsidised rates, making advanced healthcare more accessible to the public.
The government order noted that during his tenure as Deputy Chief Minister, Finance Minister and minister handling key departments, Ajit Pawar consistently prioritised the health sector in the state budget. His efforts focused on strengthening district-level medical infrastructure, establishing new medical and ayurvedic colleges, increasing the availability of modern medical equipment and expanding tertiary healthcare services in rural areas.
According to the order, these initiatives played a major role in boosting healthcare and educational development in the Baramati region. In recognition of his contribution, the state government approved the renaming of the government medical and ayurvedic institutions and their affiliated hospitals.
