Pune-Bengaluru Greenfield Expressway near Final Nod, Travel Time to Drop From 15 Hours to 7
Pune, 17th April 2026: The proposed Pune-Bengaluru Greenfield Expressway is likely to get final clearance from the Centre soon, as officials familiar with the project said that the project has entered the last stage of approval.
Planned as a 700-km access-controlled corridor, the expressway is estimated to cost Rs 45,000 crore to Rs 50,000 crore and will have six to eight lanes. It is part of the Centre’s Bharatmala infrastructure programme.
Officials said alignment approval is expected shortly, after which land acquisition and construction processes will begin.
The route is expected to pass through Maharashtra districts such as Satara and Sangli before entering Karnataka via Belagavi and connecting Vijayapura, Davanagere and Bengaluru.
Currently, road travel between Pune and Bengaluru takes around 14 to 15 hours. Once completed, the new expressway is expected to cut the journey to nearly seven hours.
Authorities said the project is also likely to boost trade, logistics, warehousing and industrial investment along the corridor, while improving freight movement between western Maharashtra and Karnataka.
