Pune-Bengaluru Highway Jam: Holiday Travellers Stuck for Hours Amid Potholes and Waterlogging

Pune/Satara, 25th May 2025: Holiday travellers faced long traffic snarls on the Pune-Bengaluru Highway on Sunday, as poor road conditions and relentless rain brought vehicle movement to a crawl. Frustration mounted among commuters, who complained about paying tolls despite enduring damaged roads and heavy congestion.
The Pune and Satara districts have been experiencing continuous rainfall for the past eight days. As a result, water has accumulated at multiple spots along the highway, submerging service roads and severely affecting the flow of traffic.
Adding to the chaos, numerous potholes have developed on the stretch due to the ongoing rain and substandard roadwork. Incomplete construction and poor drainage have worsened the situation.
Since early Sunday morning, vehicles were queued up from Shindewadi to Kapurhol, causing significant delays. The traffic was especially heavy on the stretch towards Satara, with vehicles backed up for several kilometres.
“It’s a public holiday and people are travelling with families, but these road conditions are unacceptable,” said a stranded commuter. “We pay tolls, yet we’re stuck in waterlogged roads full of potholes.”
