Pune, 3rd February 2022: Eco-friendly development will be done on both sides of the Mula-Mutha river as a part of the beautification project by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

However, the citizens of Kothrud, Sinhagad Road and Warje will face a huge blow as the riverside road between Tilak bridge (opposite PMC main building in Shivajinagar) and Mhatre Bridge will be removed permanently. The administration has assured that alternate routes will be made available. The Bhide bridge will also be demolished as it is too small. The traffic will be diverted to other routes.

The project will cost approximately Rs 5,000 crores. The project has 11 phases and a process has been launched to start work on two sites from Sangamwadi to Bundgarden and Bundgarden to Mundhwa at a cost of Rs 351 crores and Rs 600 crores respectively.

Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar said that roads in the river basin will have to be closed for the river improvement project. However, PMC will develop alternate roads so that it does not cause inconvenience to the citizens of the respective areas. Alternative routes will also be worked on the Mutha river basin adjacent to the Peth areas. Not only river banks will be beautified during river improvement projects, but Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) project will also be started at the same time to clean the river water.”
