Khadakwasla, 23rd November 2024: In a three-peat contest, Bhimrao Tapkir from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to win against Nationalist Congress Party – Sharad Pawar (NCP-SP) candidate Sachin Dodke and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) candidate Mayuresh Wanjale. Tapkir, who won in 2011, has continued his winning streak and now has four victories.

Khadakwasla constituency failed to garner votes for Baramati Lok Sabha candidate Sunetra Pawar in the last Lok Sabha elections, which led many to believe NCP-SP’s Dodke would win. Mayuresh Wanjale, the son of former MLA Ramesh Wanjale, was given the MNS ticket. Ramesh Wanjale had contested elections in 2009 but passed away in 2011, leading to Tapkir’s victory.

While the sentiment was with Wanjale, Tapkir still managed to win by a lead of over 50,000 votes, with Dodke trailing by around 50,000 votes and Wanjale by 1,20,000 votes. Wanjale was unable to capitalize on the sympathy wave, and Dodke couldn’t gain much advantage despite Sharad Pawar’s backing.

With a total of 5.61 lakh voters and a turnout of 56.53%, the voter turnout was low, which worked in Tapkir’s favour, helping him secure the win.
