Pune: Bhugaon Bypass Project Gets Green Light: Gadkari Orders Completion in Nine Months
Pune, 15th September 2025: After a delay of almost three years, the long-awaited Bhugaon Bypass Road on the Pune–Kolad National Highway is finally set to move forward. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has instructed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to ensure the project is finished within the next nine months, promising major relief for motorists struggling with congestion along the Chandni Chowk–Bhugaon stretch.
According to NHAI Project Director Sanjay Kadam, the bypass will be 860 meters long and 18 meters wide, designed as a four-lane road connecting Bhugaon with the Paranjape Scheme, linking directly to National Highway 753F. The project has been awarded to Mohanlal Matarani Construction at an estimated cost of ₹15.3 crore. Although the monsoon season caused delays, work is expected to begin within a month once all approvals are finalized.
Out of the 1.67 hectares required for the project, 95% (1.55 hectares) has already been acquired by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). Of the 41 affected landholders, 37 have given their consent. In return, they were offered Floor Space Index (FSI) and Transferable Development Rights (TDR) as compensation.
The bypass holds special significance for Bhugaon village, where road widening is impossible due to space constraints. Residents had been pressing for this project for years, while NCP MP Supriya Sule also pushed for its early execution through an appeal to Gadkari.
Once operational, the bypass will feed into Pune’s Ring Road and other upcoming highway projects, offering an alternative route towards Raigad. This integration is expected to ease the traffic load in Bhugaon and neighboring Bhukum, improving overall connectivity in the region.
“The Bhugaon Bypass is not just about easing local congestion; it will also strengthen Pune’s larger road network. Work will start right after the monsoon,” Gadkari assured during his review meeting in Pune.
