Pune: BJP Leader Ganesh Bidkar Targeted In Alleged Extortion Demand Of Rs 25 Lakhs
Pune, 31st March 2023: Pune police are investigating a case of alleged extortion against Ganesh Bidkar, a former corporator and BJP leader, who claims to have received a WhatsApp call demanding a ransom of Rs 25 lakhs.
The incident occurred on March 30, 2023, during a Shriram Jayanti procession when Bidkar received an abusive call from a number. The caller demanded the money and threatened to ruin Bidkar’s political career if he did not comply. Bidkar immediately informed the cyber police station, who have registered a case of extortion against the alleged perpetrator and are currently following up on the case.
This incident follows a similar case in which a spoofing call was made in the name of former mayor of Pune and state BJP general secretary Muralidhar Mohol, demanding extortion of Rs 3 crore from a builder in Pune. Two people were arrested in connection with the case, and it was revealed that they had misused Mohol’s name.
