Pune: BJP’s Dheeraj Ghate Demands Immediate Action in Swargate Cable Mishap

Pune, 20th May 2025: A citizen suffered serious injuries after a loose internet cable fell on them while they were passing along Sinhagad Road near Swargate, triggering renewed concerns about the unchecked menace of overhead cables in Pune. While a major tragedy was narrowly averted, the incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for better cable management in the city.
In the wake of the incident, a delegation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) electrical department and submitted a formal memorandum demanding immediate corrective measures. The delegation was led by BJP Pune City president Dheeraj Ghate.
In the memorandum, Ghate raised the issue of unauthorized and dangerously hanging internet and cable TV wires, and made the following key demands:
A technical audit of all overhead cables across the city, with a special focus on unauthorized or low-hanging internet and cable TV wires at major roads, intersections, and residential areas.
Compilation of a comprehensive list of hazardous or illegally installed cables, with immediate steps to remove them.
Issuance of notices to companies responsible for such cables, along with the implementation of accountability measures.
Creation of a dedicated PMC helpline or online portal where citizens can report dangerous cable-related issues for prompt resolution.
The delegation also included former Corporator Manasi Deshpande, along with Sushil Mengade, Vishal Pawar, Pratul Jagade, and Vijay Gaikwad. The memorandum was officially received by Shekatkar from PMC’s electrical department.
The BJP has urged the PMC to take swift and proactive measures to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure public safety across the city.
