Maval, 13th May 2024: Tourists typically journey by boat from Mumbai’s Gateway of India to explore the caves at Gharapuri. However, for the Lok Sabha elections, the polling staff had a unique journey—they travelled by boat to reach the polling station at Gharapuri.

The voting process for the Maval Lok Sabha Constituency commenced at 7 am and will continue until 6 pm today. Distribution of voting materials began at 8 am on Sunday from designated locations according to the assembly constituencies. Ballot units, control units, and VVPAT machines required for voting were handed over to the polling teams, along with necessary materials, copies of various reports, and guidelines for conducting the voting process. Transportation arrangements were also made to ferry these teams to the designated polling stations.

The Uran Vidhan Sabha Constituency falls within this Lok Sabha constituency area. The distribution of voting materials for polling booths in the Uran Constituency was conducted from the DB Patil Mangal office in Jasai. The polling station at Gharapuri is number 58 in this area. Situated on an island in the Arabian Sea, this polling station has a total of 809 voters, including 389 males and 420 females.

Separate field officers have been appointed for this polling station. One Polling Station President, two Polling Officers, and one Polling Assistant collected the voting materials from Uran today. Accompanied by a police force, this team of polling staff travelled first to the JNPT harbour by jeep and then directly reached the polling station at Gharapuri by boat, along with the voting materials.
