Pune, 26th June 2023: Anupam Kashyapi, the weather forecasting head at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Pune, has issued important advisories as the city and surrounding districts. The current weather conditions indicate the presence of strong westerly winds and the formation of more clouds, increasing the chances of heavy rainfall.

Residents are urged to be prepared for the possibility of moderate to intense, and even very intense, spells of rain. During periods of heavy rainfall, visibility may be reduced, and the roads can become slippery, exacerbating the presence of potholes. Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution, drive slowly, and be mindful of traffic conditions.

To ensure personal safety, it is advisable for the public to avoid visiting the adjacent ghat areas in the coming days. These areas are expected to experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by moderately strong winds ranging from 30 to 35 kmph.

Moreover, the continuous rainfall anticipated in the coming days may lead to water stagnation in low-lying areas. There is also a risk of trees being uprooted, and temporary structures may develop cracks due to the inclement weather. The IMD will provide impact-based forecasts and advisories periodically to support and guide the general public.

The local authorities are taking necessary precautions to mitigate the potential risks associated with the heavy rainfall. Efforts are being made to ensure proper drainage systems are in place, and prompt repairs of roads are being carried out to minimize waterlogging and prevent accidents.
