Pune: Bribe Demand of Rs 1 Lakh Settled at Rs 35,000: Cop Nabbed by ACB
Paud, 21st February 2026: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) apprehended an Assistant Police Sub-Inspector (ASI) attached to the Paud Police Station (Pune Rural) red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹35,000 on Friday evening.
The accused official, identified as 45-year-old Sachin Balasaheb Shinde, a resident of Susgaon, Mulshi, was caught at the Mulshi Beat Office under the jurisdiction of the Paud Police Station.
According to the ACB, a 45-year-old complainant approached them on February 18, 2026. The complainant had a case registered against him at the Paud Police Station, which ASI Shinde was investigating. To favor the complainant in the ongoing investigation and to refrain from seizing his vehicle, ASI Shinde allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹1,00,000.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB verified the demand on February 20. During the verification process, ASI Shinde negotiated the amount and agreed to settle for ₹35,000.
Following the confirmation, an ACB team laid a trap on the same day at 5:40 PM at the Mulshi Beat Office. ASI Shinde was caught red-handed accepting the ₹35,000 bribe in the presence of witnesses.
An FIR has been registered against him at Paud police station for offence under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The successful trap was executed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Solapur ACB) Prashant Chougule and Investigating Officer Police Inspector Shailaja Shinde.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of ACB Pune Region Superintendent of Police (SP) Shirish Sardeshpande, and Additional Superintendents of Police Ajit Patil and Arjun Bhosale.
Following the incident, SP Shirish Sardeshpande appealed to the public to come forward and report any government officer or employee, or any private middleman, demanding bribes for official work.
