Pune, 27th September 2022: As a part of the Directorate General of Defence Estate’s initiative to lease out 60 land parcels across 19 Cantonment Boards under Southern Command, 20 ‘C’ category land parcels will be given on lease to private parties to generate revenue.

Dehu Road, Khadki, and Pune Cantonment Boards in the Pune district are struggling with finances, leading the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to give directions to appoint a private consultant to identify land areas with commercial value.

Talking to the Times Of India, one of the Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of the cantonments said, “All kinds of civic services like repair of the road, water pipeline, cleaning and maintaining of assets have been hampered in the last few years. We get a paltry financial fund from the state and central governments which only takes care of basic monthly expenditures. A concrete solution is needed to tide over the issues. Once these assets are established, the board will have permanent revenue generation sources.”
