Camp, 11th February 2022: The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) continued with its massive crackdown on unauthorized hawkers today as special teams from the Nuisance Prevention Squad (NPS) and Health Department fined hawkers, seized goods and handcarts as part of their day-long operation.

According to the PCB health department, action has been taken against more than 100 hawkers and a fine of over Rs five lakh has been collected and over 50 handcarts seized since the drive began a few days ago.

PCB CEO Amit Kumar has given strict orders to his staffers to remove all types of encroachments on the public roads, bylanes and streets. Special focus will be given to the removal of encroachments on the footpaths starting next week.

The seized handcarts, kiosks and other material has been kept at the PCB office at Golibar Maidan. Earlier, the PCB took action against the Camp’s famous ‘Garden Vada Pav’ stall. On Friday, the PCB took action against Kohinoor Paan Shop and slapped a fine against the establishment.

Kumar told Punekar News that action is being taken against the unauthorized hawkers under the relevant sections of the Cantonment Act and stringent measures will be put in place to ensure that the hawker menace is controlled effectively across the cantonment area.
