Pimpri, 11th February 2022: The people of Bopkhel, Ramnagar and Ganeshnagar, who have been making a long detour to Pimpri-Chinchwad or Pune for the last six years, will now get two new roads.

Deputy Mayor Hiranani Ghule said, “Apart from the bridge over the Mula river from Bopkhel to Khadki, a nine-meter road will be developed from Bopkhel to Dapodi and from Bopkhel to Vishrantwadi under the river improvement project.”

She further informed that the work will be started by issuing a tender as soon as the proposal is approved by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) general body.

This will be the first road project in Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal area crossing the river bank. The road will be nine meters wide. Citizens of Bopkhel will get an alternative route which will save time. It will save not only money but also fuel. Ghule expressed satisfaction that the traffic congestion will also be relieved.

Ghule said, “The Mula river flows through Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad city limits. The length of the river from Wakad to Bopkhel is about 14.20 km. This includes some of the Army areas in Pimplenilakh and Dapodi (College of Military Engineering). Mula river improvement project is being jointly implemented by the PCMC and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).”

“Since most of the Mula river stretch in the PCMC jurisdiction is natural, hence, the riverbank development here will be done in a completely natural way. It will be possible to develop a green belt along the river in the municipal development plan. The layout shows a nine-meter road along the river. A nine-meter road will be developed on both sides of the river from Bopkhel to Dapodi and from Bopkhel to Vishrantwadi. This road is going to be through the river basin. As the road is outside the boundaries of the defence establishments, the permission of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) will not be required”, the Deputy Mayor informed through a press release.

Ghule explained, “Mula, Mutha river improvement projects are under Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Khadki Cantonment Board, along with some defence lands. Pune Municipal Corporation divided the project in its area into 11 parts. Tenders have been issued for some of them. Accordingly, the project consultant has estimated the cost at Rs 750 crore for 14.2 km length of the river under PCMC”.

“Administrative approval will be given by the PCMC Standing Committee on the amount required for land acquisition under the project. After that, the work will be started soon by issuing a tender”, said Mayor Ghule.
