Pune: Car Plunges Off Bavdhan Bridge on Pune-Bangalore Highway; Two Injured, Tragedy Averted
Bavdhan, 31st July 2025: A serious accident on the Pune-Bangalore highway was narrowly prevented from becoming a tragedy when a car crashed through the railing of the Bavdhan Bridge and fell onto the service road below. While both the driver and co-passenger sustained injuries, no lives were lost in the incident.
The accident occurred when the speeding vehicle lost control and rammed into the bridge’s protective barrier, which failed to withstand the impact. The car plunged from the elevated highway onto the service road, fortunately deserted at the time, preventing what could have been a far more severe outcome. Residents of the nearby Pebbles 2 housing society were especially shaken by the close call.
The mishap has raised renewed concerns over the condition and strength of highway safety infrastructure. Locals and commuters are now calling for urgent safety reviews of bridge railings, with specific demands for reinforced steel barriers and soundproof walls along this stretch of the Bavdhan flyover.
Bavdhan police have initiated an investigation to determine what led to the loss of control, whether it was speeding, driver error, or a mechanical failure.
Despite the alarming nature of the crash, the absence of casualties has brought a collective sigh of relief, but also a strong call to action for highway authorities to enhance safety on Pune’s busy flyovers.
