Chakan, 21st August 2026: A large number of heavy vehicles continued to be parked along roads in Chakan MIDC on Friday morning, despite Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi announcing that action against illegal roadside parking would begin from the day.

The continued parking of trucks and containers along key roads prompted residents and commuters to question whether the administration had followed through on its promise to tackle the issue.

Heavy vehicles, including containers carrying raw materials and finished goods, were seen occupying road space at several locations, resulting in congestion and slowing traffic movement. The commuters reported heavy congestion between Chimbli and Kuruli stretch on the Pune-Nashik highway, claiming that the disruption started as early as 7 am and continued beyond 10 am.

Dudi, who heads the state-appointed committee coordinating with various agencies to address infrastructure issues in Chakan MIDC, had said on Tuesday that illegally parked heavy vehicles were occupying entire lanes and contributing significantly to traffic congestion.

He had estimated that removing the vehicles from roads could improve traffic movement by around 25%, as an additional lane would become available for vehicular movement.

As part of the plan, MIDC and other government-owned open and gaothan lands in the area have been identified for use as parking spaces. Heavy vehicle owners and drivers have been urged to use these designated spaces, which are being made available free of cost.

However, the continued roadside parking on Friday raised questions over the enforcement of the proposed measures and whether the new parking arrangements had been effectively implemented. The Pimpri Chinchwad Police and district collector had promised that action including seizure of vehicles and filing of legal cases will be initiated against vehicles that are parked illegally along the roads.
