Pune, 21st August 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licences of four eateries in Pune division following violations related to food safety and hygiene during a special inspection drive conducted from August 17 to 20.

The establishments facing action are Baba’s Kitchen in Mulshi, Ambrosios and Shrinath Food Corner in Hinjewadi, and a Sapphire Foods-operated KFC outlet in Bavdhan, said D V Bhogawade, joint commissioner, FDA (Food).

At Baba’s Kitchen, officials found the use of unauthorised food colouring along with large quantities of stale food. An inspection at Ambrosios revealed poor hygiene conditions and the presence of cockroaches on the premises.

At the KFC outlet, the storage facility was found to be operating without the required approval under its FSSAI licence. Officials also found a malfunctioning cold-storage air-conditioning system, leading to water leakage and ice accumulation on food boxes, raising concerns over possible contamination.

“Food boxes were stored directly on the floor and against walls. Records related to inspections, audits and employee training were also not available,” Bhogawade said.

The FDA also initiated regulatory action against five establishments across Pune division — comprising Pune, Satara, Solapur, Sangli and Kolhapur — over suspected food adulteration.

The action was taken as part of a special drive under the ‘Safe Food, Safe Drug, Safe Maharashtra’ campaign.
