Chakan, 4th March 2025: Pournima Ambadas Gadhave (29), who was critically injured in the Chakan container truck accident on 16th January, succumbed to her injuries this afternoon. Her death comes 46 days after the incident and follows the earlier demise of her 9-year-old daughter, Dhanashree, who passed away on 23rd January.

The accident, which occurred at Manik Chowk in Chakan, involved a container truck driven by Aquib Khan (24) from Haryana. The truck hit a two-wheeler carrying Pournima, her daughter Dhanashree, and their friend Jyoti Dhole. Following the initial collision, the driver continued on a 28-kilometer rampage, hitting 10 to 12 more vehicles before being stopped in Wajewadi.

Pournima, who had been undergoing treatment at a Pawana Multispeciality Hospital in Somatane Phata after initial care in Pimpri, lost her battle for life at around 2:30 PM today.

Contrary to initial suspicions, medical tests revealed that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Khan claimed he was unaware of hitting the two-wheeler and continued driving due to panic from being chased by citizens. The police have registered three cases against the accused driver. These include charges for rash driving, attempting to harm police officers, and an additional case filed at Shikrapur police station.

During the incident, Assistant Police Inspector Nakul Nyamne narrowly escaped injury, while a traffic warden was hurt when the truck collided with a police vehicle. The chase ended when the truck was intercepted using a dumper truck in Wajewadi, under Shikrapur Police Station’s jurisdiction.
