Mumbai, 21st June 2023: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced funding of Rs 41 crore for the completion of the Chapekar Bandhu Memorial in Chinchwad. A meeting was held at the Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai to review the progress of the memorial.

Present at the meeting were MP Shrirang Barane, MLA Ashwini Jagtap, Commissioner of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation – Shekhar Singh, and Chairman of Krantiveer Chapekar Memorial Committee – Girish Prabhune.

During the meeting, Commissioner Shekhar Singh presented an update on the memorial’s progress, when Chief Minister Shinde assured that the necessary funds will be provided by the government to accelerate the completion of this revolutionary project. But for this, the municipal corporation should immediately submit a proposal to the government.

Prabhune shared the current status of the memorial’s construction and revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted the invitation to inaugurate the memorial.

The old wada of the Krantiveer Chapekar brothers was an ancient historical building at Chinchwadgaon. Due to the dilapidation of this palace, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) received an order from the State Government on 12th June 1997 to erect a memorial dedicated to the Krantiveer Chapekar brothers. The foundation for the memorial’s first phase was laid in 1997, followed by the second phase in 2001. Currently, work is in progress for the completion of the remaining portions of the monument, including the third phase.
