Kharadi, 21st June 2023: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has reversed its earlier decision to supply water to the Kharadi area on an alternate-day basis. The decision was met with significant public outrage, leading to the municipal corporation’s withdrawal of the plan. As a result, Kharadi, along with other parts of the city, will continue to experience water shut-offs every Thursday.

The decision to implement the alternate-day water supply in Kharadi, Chandannagar, Mathuranagar, Sangharsh Chowk, Vrindavan Society, Chaudhary Vasti, Satavasti, Gulmohar, Shankarnagar, Ganapati Society, Baratevasti, Thite Nagar, Patil Buanagar Sitara Bakery, Sai Park, Shejwal Park, Saibaba Mandir, and other areas has caused significant disruptions and unrest among residents.

Citizens and political parties strongly protested against the disruption in water supply, leading to the PMC’s decision to cancel the one-day water shut-off in the area. The move comes in response to the complaints and grievances raised by the residents.

Anirudh Pavaskar, Head of the PMC’s Water Supply Department, stated, “The decision to implement the one-day water supply in the Kharadi area was an experimental measure. However, considering the concerns raised by the citizens, we have decided to withdraw this plan. Normal water supply will resume in the area from Friday onwards.”
