Pune, 14th April 2026: In anticipation of large crowds and grand processions celebrating the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, the Pune City Traffic Police have announced major route diversions and parking restrictions across the city.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Himmat Jadhav, issued an official notification detailing the changes to ensure public safety and the smooth flow of vehicular movement. The diversions will primarily affect areas around the District Collectorate, Arora Tower (Camp), Vishrantwadi, Sinhagad Road, and the central city areas, where thousands of followers are expected to gather to pay their respects.

Heavy Vehicle Entry Banned

To prevent major gridlocks, the entry of all heavy and multi-axle vehicles, containers, and dumpers into Pune city limits will be strictly prohibited for 24 hours. This ban takes effect from 11:00 PM on April 13 and will last until midnight of April 14. Exemptions have been made for essential and emergency service vehicles, including fire brigades and ambulances.

Key Traffic Diversions:

  • District Collectorate & Pune Station: Roads leading from Shahir Amar Shaikh Chowk, RTO Chowk, GPO Chowk, and Narpatgiri Chowk towards Maldhakka Chowk will remain closed. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes via Jahangir Chowk, Kumbharves, and Nehru Memorial Chowk.
  • Arora Tower (Camp Area): Traffic heading towards Arora Tower from Dr. Koyaji Road, the ISKCON Temple, and Nehru Chowk will be restricted. Commuters should utilize the SBI House Chowk and Tarapore Road bypasses. Furthermore, strict “No Parking” zones have been enforced on the stretches connecting Dorabjee Chowk, Arora Tower, and Naaz Chowk.
  • Vishrantwadi & Airport Road: Due to anticipated congestion near Kalas Phata and Alandi Road, traffic traveling from Pune City towards Vishrantwadi, Bopkhel, and Dighi will be redirected via Holkar Bridge and Khadki. Vehicles coming from Airport Road Post Office towards Commerzone will also face entry restrictions.
  • Central City & Sinhagad Road: Traffic moving from Puram Chowk towards Shivajinagar via the arterial Bajirao Road will be diverted through Tilak Road and Alka Talkies Chowk. On Ganesh Road, traffic from Lal Mahal Chowk will be shut down as needed, with alternative routing provided via Laxmi Road. Temporary adjustments will also be seen near Dandekar Bridge on Sinhagad Road.

Designated Parking and Police Appeal

To accommodate devotees visiting the statues, the traffic police have arranged designated parking facilities, including the SSPMS ground near the RTO and the Tukaram Shinde parking lot near Pune Station.

DCP Himmat Jadhav has appealed to all citizens to pre-plan their commutes, utilize the suggested alternative routes, and cooperate fully with traffic personnel on the ground to avoid any inconvenience during the celebrations.
