Pune: Child Marriage Prevented In Lohegaon Due To Social Activist And Police Intervention

Lohegaon, 4th March 2023: A social activist’s awareness and courage, in coordination with the Child Welfare Committee and Airport Police, prevented the child marriage of a girl from Lohegaon who dreams of education. The girl, studying in Class IX, had expressed a desire to learn and grow in the home of knowledge.

According to Anand Shinde, a member of the Child Welfare Committee, senior social worker Pournima Gadia and Committee Chairman Dr Rani Khedikar were alerted to the marriage of the fourteen-year-old girl from Lohegaon. The Committee members Vaishali Gaikwad, Anand Shinde, Shyamalata Rao, and Purvi Jadhav immediately contacted the police and successfully prevented the child marriage with their prompt response.

Assistant Police Inspector Shivdas Lahane, under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Vilas Sonde, went to the spot and took the girl into custody to prevent child marriage. The girl was produced before the Child Welfare Committee, and a notice has been issued to the girl’s parents.
