Pune: CID Arrests Absconding Accused In Rs 367 Crore Embezzlement Case
Pune, 25th June 2023: The State Crime Investigation Department (CID) has successfully apprehended a man from the Sangamner area who had been evading the police for the past eight years. The arrest was made in connection with a case involving the embezzlement of Rs 367 crore in subsidies from the Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Development Corporation.
The arrested individual has been identified as Kamlakar Rama Takwale, aged 40, residing in Sarafnagar, Paithan, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. The funds, intended for distribution among eligible beneficiaries of the Matang community, were meant to be disbursed between 2012 and 2015. A committee consisting of officers from the Social Welfare Department and District Managers of the Corporation was established under the guidance of the District Collector for this purpose.
During the aforementioned period, the president of the Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Development Corporation, then MLA Ramesh Kadam, managing director Shravan Bavane, and other office bearers of the corporation embezzled Rs 367 crore. Multiple cases were registered against them for defrauding the government, and subsequently, 26 individuals, including Ramesh Kadam, were implicated in this case. Kadam has been in custody since then.
The accused, Kamlakar, had been on the run for eight years, leading to his declaration as an absconder by the court. The CID flying squad received information that Takwale had assumed a different identity and was residing in Ahmednagar district. Acting upon this information, Takwale was arrested from a hotel in the Sangamner area.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of CID Chief Additional Director General of Police Prashant Burde, Superintendent of Police Dr Dinesh Bari, Additional Superintendent Anuja Deshmane, Police Inspector Dinesh Patil, Head Constables Krishnakant Desai, Rajendra Dorge, and Constable Ashok Gade from Rajur Police Station in Ahmednagar district.
