Pune 6th Sept 2023: The citizens and several activists of the city have joined hands to demand ‘Free Bus Day’ in Pune to fight against the air pollution and traffic congestion problems which according to them has been on a rise for the last few years. The Pune Air Action Club, a platform that works to improve the city’s air quality, has handed over a letter to the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal (PMPML), Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation with the demand.

The members of the group have demanded in a letter that September 7, which is celebrated as the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, should be declared ‘Free Bus Day’ in Pune. The initiative according to the activist aims to communicate to the citizens about the importance of clean air.

It may be noted that the air quality was reported alarming in the last few reports published by various organisations in the city. The increased number of private vehicles on the road has added to the problem and the activists have been demanding a solution to increase the ridership on public transport to solve this problem. The civic officials have said that they have received the letter and they will discuss with the concerned authorities to take a call on the demand.
