Pune: Citizen’s Enthusiasm For Diwali Shopping Causing Trouble For Drivers And Motorists, Traffic Congestion At Laxmi Road, Tilak Road
Pune, 15th October 2022: There was a rush in Pune city on Saturday (October 15) to buy Diwali clothes and decorations. A large number of citizens from the city as well as the suburbs came to Mandai, Tulshibaug, and Laxmi Road areas for shopping. The shopping rush disrupted traffic on major roads and lanes in the central region. Diwali is starting next Friday (October 21).
Friday (October 21) is Vasubaras, on Saturday (October 22) is Dhanteras while on Monday (October 24) is Narak Chaturdashi and Lakshmi Pujan. So the Diwali shopping spree has started in the market.
It is seen that citizens of Pune city and suburbs thronged the commercial market with their families for shopping on weekends (October 15). Vendors selling Diwali Lanterns, and decorative materials have set up temporary shops in Mandai, Shanipar area.
There was a rush for shopping from Saturday morning in the clothing store in the area of Laxmj road, Kumthekar road. There was a rush to buy decorative materials in Kapdganj, Bohari lane area of Raviwar Peth. Shops selling electrical lighting materials from Vithoba Chowk to Moti Chowk in Budhwar Pethe were lit up.
Citizens crowded the Moti Chowk area to buy ubtan and incense. Traffic was disrupted in Shanipar, Mandai, Tulshibaug, Laxmi road, Kumthekar road, and Tilak road areas. But it is seen that citizens made their way through the crowd to buy the necessary items.
Heavy rains lashed the city on Friday (October 14) afternoon. There was a rush for shopping in the market since morning due to the possibility of rain. Traffic was disrupted as citizens flocked to the centre in large numbers for shopping. As there was no space available to park cars and two-wheelers, vehicles were parked on the side of the road.
