Pune: Civic Chief Sets Deadlines for Shastrinagar, Vishrantwadi Flyover Projects
Pune, 13th August 2026: Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram on Thursday reviewed the progress of two key traffic projects at Shastrinagar Chowk and Mukundrao Ambedkar Chowk (Vishrantwadi Junction), directing officials and contractors to expedite the work.
The proposed Shastrinagar project comprises a 750-metre, six-lane grade separator between Aga Khan Palace and Gunjan Chowk, and a 700-metre, four-lane flyover between Aga Khan Palace and Golf Chowk.
The projects are aimed at easing congestion at Shastrinagar, which currently bears heavy traffic from Nagar Road towards Mumbai, Kalyaninagar, Gunjan Chowk and Golf Chowk.
Ram directed officials to expedite the grade separator and complete it within four months. He also set March 2027 as the deadline for completing the entire grade separator and flyover project.
Officials were asked to coordinate with traffic police and other departments to ensure traffic safety and address technical requirements while speeding up construction.
At Mukundrao Ambedkar Chowk, Ram inspected the ongoing flyover and grade separator project and reviewed its progress. Officials pointed out that a portion of the Rameshwar Sheth Ganpati temple and the Mahalakshmi Devi temple were obstructing the grade separator alignment between Alandi Road and Airport Road.
Ram directed the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA), construction development department, Nagar Road ward office, encroachment department and landowners to hold a joint meeting and site inspection and resolve the issue within a month.
He also directed departments to coordinate on the relocation of water pipelines and electricity cables required for the project.
Encroachments by hawkers and vendors along Tank Road on Pune-Alandi Road were found to be obstructing traffic. The encroachment department was instructed to remove them immediately and install fixed points to prevent the area from being re-encroached upon.
Once traffic is diverted at the junction, work on the flyover on the junction and Alandi Road side will be taken up immediately, officials said.
Ram directed the contractor to complete all pending requirements and open the flyover and grade separator to traffic by the end of December 2026.
The project is expected to ease congestion around Vishrantwadi and provide relief to commuters travelling towards the airport, Alandi Road, Dhanori, Lohegaon and Nagar Road.
