Pune: Class 10 Student Injured in Sharp-Weapon Attack in Kothrud, Police Probe School Dispute Angle
Kothrud 19 January 2026: A Class 10 student was injured in a sharp-weapon attack in the Kothrud area on Saturday evening, in an incident that has once again highlighted growing concerns over violent confrontations involving school students.
The attack occurred around 5.30 pm near Swami Samarth Math, where the minor was allegedly waylaid by two youths following a dispute that reportedly originated on a school campus. Police said the assailants intercepted the student, abused him verbally and assaulted him before attacking him with a sharp weapon and fleeing the spot.
The injured student has been identified as Kalyan. After the incident, his elder brother, Balram Hanumant Lokhande (24), a resident of Pandurang Colony in the Sutardara area, approached the Kothrud Police Station and lodged a complaint. Based on his statement, a case has been registered against two unidentified persons.
Senior Police Inspector Sandeep Deshmane, in charge of the Kothrud Police Station, visited the scene shortly after the incident. The investigation has been assigned to Police Sub-Inspector Kale, while multiple teams have been formed to trace and apprehend the accused, who remain absconding.
Preliminary inquiries suggest that the assault was the result of a previous argument at school that later escalated outside the campus. Police officials expressed concern over the increasing number of violent incidents linked to school-level disputes.
