Pune: CM Eknath Shinde Admits To Water Shortage In Villages Merged With PMC

Pune, 28th December 2022: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde admitted in the assembly on Tuesday (December 27) that there is a water shortage in the villages included in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits.

Shinde informed in the Legislative Assembly that water is being supplied through 525 tankers per day as the existing network of water channels in the merged villages is insufficient.

MLA of Khadakwasla Assembly Constituency Bhimrao Tapkir had raised questions regarding water scarcity in the villages included in the Assembly along with infrastructure facilities, solid waste management, electricity system, health workers, and labor recruitment. Answering it, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde admitted that there is a shortage of water.

“Earlier, solid waste management, electricity system, and water supply were arranged through Gram Panchayat in the included villages. Now, the repair work for the same is currently being done. The network of water channels is inadequate in the villages covered. Therefore, water is being supplied through 525 water tankers per day,” informed CM Shinde.

“Rs 500 crores is expected to be spent to provide electricity in these villages. The electric pole will be set up by implementing the tender process in this regard. 400 metric tonnes of waste generated in the villages are being scientifically disposed of in municipal waste treatment plants.”

Chief Minister Shinde said that 951 contractual sanitation workers have been appointed for solid waste management.

“An adviser has been appointed to provide infrastructure in the villages involved and a detailed project plan has been prepared for Sus-Mhalunge and Bavdhan Budruk villages.”

Shinde also said that an adviser has been appointed for the sewage works.
